Activities implementing the AU Plan of Action

During its pilot phase, AAN focused its efforts in eight countries– Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, and Zambia–representing a range of Anglophone, Francophone, and Lusophone countries. AAN assisted these countries in reviewing national strategic plans and drafting National Action Plans on albinism in line with the AU Plan of Action (2021-2031), as well as getting the plans adopted by governments with accompanying multi-year budgets.

We currently serve other countries across Africa through capacity development, including through joint advocacy at the United Nations and African Union.

AAN considers all albinism advocacy groups in the Africa region general members of the Network. We seek out partnerships with various organizations, focusing on those representing persons with albinism, toward advancing their full community inclusion and the cessation of ritual attacks and discrimination against persons with albinism.
