Advocacy & Capacity Building

The Africa Albinism Network relies on human rights advocacy to promote implementation of the African Union Plan of Action to End Attacks and other Human Rights Violations Targeting Persons with Albinism (2021-2031). It make statements, submit reports and engages with various human rights bodies and mechanisms at the African Union and the United Nations. This is the list of submissions and engagements to date:

Advocacy at the African Union​

  • Statement to the 37th Session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) on the Situation of Children with Albinism in Africa - March 2021​
  • Statement to the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights, 68th Session on the situation of persons with albinism in Africa - April-May 2021

Capacity building

The AAN strives to build the capacity of its partner organizations. The human rights advocacy submissions and activities are prepared with local organizations that are trained and informed about UN /AU mechanisms & processes.​ ​The AAN organizes country visits to help form local National Action Plan task forces​. ​Guidance and review by the Africa Albinism Network is offered during the drafting process of their National Action Plan by partner organizations. ​ ​ ​
